Yes, I think I can help.

Do not ask Verizon to add the ESN add it yourself by using *228. Now choose option 3 to add a new device to your line (it might ask for the phone number you wish to use) let it do it's programming and once it finishes your device will be added in to the system.

I fully changed my Touch to be a Verizon device before trying this and I had no issues. There is also a Diamond user in the Diamond forums that says that it worked for him also.
