Actually.. you can leave cleartype on.
The problem is if you are using a tweak program like DiamondTweak or AdvanceConnfig they have an option to force cleartype when in landscape.
When you check that option is when you will have the problem.
Uncheck that option and then soft reset, and you should be fine.
