Yes, IMAP will sync your read/unread messages, etc. The sent message feature is actually from using their SMTP servers so it happens wether you use pop or imap.

With IMAP you can do lots of stuff and it will reflect the changes. Even starring/flagging the message will show up on all computers you sync with IMAP as well as gmail webmail.
