Re: i know why battery life sucks so much!

Here is my estimated breakdown of battery drain per hour, based upon my compilation of the many reports in this thread and my own personal observation over the last month.

At idle, Phone On, Data Inactive, BT Off, Wifi Off
Backlight Off - 13Ma / hr
Backlight On, lowest level - 57Ma / hr (add 9Ma / hr for each level of brightness)

Turn BT On - additional 59 Ma / hr. Add to above

Active Data Connection (transmitting) - Additional ~362Ma / hr This is hard to pin down exactly

Active Phone Call - ~268 Ma / hr (Probably will vary with signal strength)

golfman32, based upon what you reported, here is my calculation of your battery drain in 8 hours.

Phone On: ~160Ma (160/1340=11.95% battery drain)
Add BT On: ~472Ma (472/1340=35.22% battery drain
Add 1.5 hours of Active (transmitting) Data: ~543Ma (543/1340=40.52% battery drain

Total: 1,175Ma (1175/1340=87.69% battery drain in 8 hours.

Your report of 15% to 20% remaining sounds about right. BT on is expensive and so is active data.

Unlike many who have reported, I find NO measurable battery drain if the GPS locator is on, but not actively seeking satellites. I always have the GPS locator on. The effect that signal strength has on battery drain is the big unknown. Many have reported that poor signal strength has a big impact. I did my monitoring with the Airave, so these estimates are under optimal conditions.
