If you want to verify that GPS is working w/o a data connection, use something like WMMiniGPS (
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-...igps-v1-2.html) which just looks at the raw GPS data. It won't show your position visually on a map, but at least gives you a read-out of the data. You can also use a GPS program that stores the maps on your SD card, as several others have mentioned. As mithodge said, something like Google Maps or Windows Live maps require service because their maps are stored online. The GPS should not require a data connection (and anyone w/ a Touch or Mogul can test this just by turning off the phone radio, aka flight mode).
