What is the 'slidelock' thingie?

I see in one of the screenshots that there is a softkey action called "slidelock" on what looks like the today screen. What is that? If it disables the keyboard activated screen rotation feature, that would freaking rock! Please tell me that's what it is and confirm whether it keeps it disabled when the device goes to sleep and wakes back up, and if it still disables it with other apps having focus and not just when at the today screen.

I'm one of those poor bastards making do with a dying 6700. Thank you so much for posting the shot comparing the thickness of the 6700 to the 6800. It has given me the strength to carry on.
