Re: i know why battery life sucks so much!
I see the same 61 mAh draw at idle as others (BL at step 1, BT on). The intresting part is that the Diamond seems to deal with poor coverage in the worse way regardless of observed drain value via the monitor tools.
At my office, I have near-100% coverage. At my house, I have very spotty coverage. Sometimes it would jump to 90+, only to immediately jump down to 6% or zero. EVDO/1xRTT is spotty. Often, the phone does not ring at all. I currently have the Diamond and Centro on Sprint. The Diamond replaced the Touch, M610, and A900 (along with many others that I only kept for a short time).
As expected, every phone I had with Sprint will last longer while I'm at the office. At the same time, they all die faster when at home. The Centro seems to be affected very little by the poor coverage. The Touch seems to deal with it okay as well (not a huge dive in battery life when I'm at home).
The Diamond is the worst, will last about six hours while I'm home. When I'm at work, based on the drain pattern, it is likely that I can go 12-14 hours. This observation is very consistent. No matter what I do, the battery burns like mad when I'm at home. I have never seen a phone that is affected as much by poor coverage.
I haven't compared, but I wonder if there are certain RF settings that is more agressive in the Diamond during cell-site communication when compared to the other phones...
