rstoyguy I tried the registry edits as I knew where the location was but didn't know what to put in there. I tried all 0's but if I changed the theme to another and then back again the colour was screwed up again. The funny thing was that the registry dword value was still all 0's.
Lylej2k's little program brought it back to black or nearly so.

I am wondering if there is another program that is interfering with the colour. In the theme manager the preview shows solid black, like the background for the theme just goes right to the top of the screen with no line showing for the title bar at all. That;s what I would like to achieve if possible.

Ya i'd like em blacker too but this is the best i've found to accomplish what i want.
