How to remove "Wireless Sync" icon from bottom of homescreen?

I have a xv6900, and i use wireless sync to get my gmail pushed to my phone. What im trying to do is remove the Wireless Sync icon that seems to be in the system tray at the bottom of the today screen, just above the soft keys. Thus freeing space on my homescreen for my calender. Ive searched high and dry for this and havent found a solution that can be confirmed to work.

Heres a pic i found of the icon im talking about.

It be much appreciated.
