Chimmer, I think we agree. If it were not for the long standing use of my address I would change it and have my own domain name. I know some folks who have already done this. That may happen with me as well, but I'm not one of those really BIG guys out there or so vain about it, but I know some who are. I'm just trying to make that point, but I just don't think Sprint really understands the potential impact of their decision to not at least keep their outgoing server if only to provide a relay service.
I'm wasn't really pleased with my clients seeing an incoming email with the "From:
someone@sprintpcs.com on behalf of
someoneElse@nc.rr.com" by using Sprint's SMTP server as a pass through, so I pushed for a cleaner solution with RR, and got it. The FROM line above is actually fairly tolerable, at least the client knows you care about keeping in touch and responding promptly when it is important.
So if (really more like when) I upgrade my phone / service I will revisit the idea about having my own domain name (or changing service providers). I will be talking further with both the Sprint and RR folks to see if this can be resolved. The solution seems to me to be fairly strait forward. Implementing it might be another issue though.
