ActiveSync will take a painfully long time filling up a 16 gig card while in phone. I've found with my 8 gig card that using a USB adaptor makes transfers go 12 to 15 times faster! So, if I'm just moving a few new songs to the card, I leave it in phone. But when I get my 16 gigger, I'll be putting about 14 gigs of music on it before it ever goes into the phone. I'm currently re-organizing directory structure so songs, playlists, and folders are more efficiently navigated, based on how my player, PocketMusic, functions now with 8 gig card in anticipation of 16 gig so as to avoid potential slow downs.

You can find USB adaptors at lots of places. Got mine at Office Depot several months ago, price may be even better now.

Edit - PS: I like this one by Ativa because: (1) When USB plug has cap on, and card door is snapped shut, it's totally consealed from pocket fuzz, so good to carry around. And, (2) it has an LED indicator light so you know which side's up when plugging in, and most importantly, it acts as sort of an idiot light that goes on and off sometimes flashes and helps let you know how your transfer is going along.

Hope this helps, MrG
