Two week review
I've now had my P4000 for just over two weeks. I have to say I'm still very happy with this phone. It is easily the best Windows Mobile phone I've used. Afte a couple of weeks use, little things sometimes start to pop up that can be annoying, so far they are very few, but there are a couple of issues.
Network connection
I have had problems with the P4000 connecting to the EVDO network. One problem I noticed early on, but haven't for awhile is getting kicked off the network. Then being asked for a password before it will let you back on. There have been reports of slow connection times. Also there have been reports of not being able to connect without doing a soft reset. I've had this happen a few times, and it happened again today after going several days without a connection problem.
To me anyway, this is not a show stopper, and the problems are very intermittent.
Speaker popping
I've heard a few people mention they are hearing poping or crackling from the speaker. I'm having this happen sometimes. It only happens occasionally and is usually associated with short sounds like screen taps. I'm not sure what causes this problem. It has affected Pocket PCs in the past.
Again it is not a show stopper and it only happens occasionally.
Keyboard
I mentioned in the review that the keyboard opens to the right. This is now pretty standard on all sliding keyboard HTC devices. With the keyboard now sliding out to the right, it puts the dpad on the left to be used with your left hand. I never noticed this till the other day when a poster on another site mentioned it to me. As I said this is the case on all HTC sliding keyboard devices. I'm not really sure why they chose this switch, in a predominantly right handed world.
Also I have noticed the light for my keyboard not coming on in the dark sometimes. It seems ok now but for a couple of days it wouldn't come on.
Otherwise I'm very pleased with this phone. If anyone wants it they will have to pry it our of my cold dead hands.
