I thought about ststing a new post for this, but decided to post it in here.....
When the battery was first introduced (come on guys....not THAT one, the one written into S2U2 by A_C) there were many people asking about the charge percentage showing, and a bung (including me) pondered the possibilities to no avail. Eventually the idea got pushed to the background to make way for other customizations that threads like this offer.
Well.....the wait is over!!!! alanlsmith over at XDA did it!!! He wrote a mortscript that triggers the change, and a couple graphics as well. He gave me his permission to post over here, so here is his original post:

I've used Mortscript ( http://www.sto-helit.de ) to monitor the battery & change the image as appropriate. I haven't done any fancy graphics as it's more of a test than anything else, also it only works whilst charging (although it can be modified to work all the time).
I works by monitoring for the device charging, if the device is on battery power the script just scheduled itself to run again in 15 seconds & exits, if it's charging then the battery level is checked & displayed, it only updates when the level has changed.
It seems to work okay, although if you are watching it when the level changes, you will see S2U2 close then re-open again.
Installation:
Assuming Mortscript is installed & S2U2 is installed in \Program Files in main memory.
Copy battery1.png, battery2.png, battery3.png & batteryG.png to \S2U2\GFX
Also copy Battery Level folder (& contents) to \S2U2/GFX
Copy Battery Level.mscr to your prefered folder for Mortscript files & create a shortcut to it in the Windows\Startup folder.
