I just had this problem and it wouldn't take the password for long, or at all.
Reset button didn't help.
Taking the battery out a few seconds did help, it keeps the password now.

I went through this same procedure a week ago, after roming my own kitchen, then I ran the battery down, and again the battery fixed worked.
