The first thing that I did was to disable any auto-off settings on the device. I NEVER deploy laptops or PPCs (well, PPC 6700) with sleep, hibernate or auto-off settings enabled. -- I've had too many support issues from my users - whether its Windows or hardware problems --
I recommend disabling the auto-off settings or other stuff that makes it sleep and manually turning the device off, when you want it to be off.
I'm only now allowing the screen to turn off -- but not on external power.
I think that all this sleep stuff requires programs to poll the clock. Thus, it adds load to the processor, slowing down the computer.
