Make sure you have updated your ROM with the HTC/Alltel ROM from the website and the patch.

ROM: http://216.139.227.226/alltel/RUU_TI..._PPST_Ship.exe
50MB

patch:
http://johniii.tripod.com/Enable_GPS_Alltel_ppc6800.zip <--must copy and paste into browser
80KB

1. copy the contents of the 'Enable_GPS_Alltel_ppc6800.zip' to your phone.
2. Install each of 4 files one at a time to the main memory (do not install on storage card).
3. start with file 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 (some of the install files will only make the screen 'flick' this is good. move on to the next one)
4. after they are all done soft reset the phone.

check that ur gps setting:
start/settings/system/external gps
Program Tab: Com 4
Hardware Tab: gps hardare port= none, baudrate = 4800 baud
Access Tab: check 'manage gps automatically'

use google maps. (gps option = let windows manage my gps)

------------------------------------------

As with any ROM upgrade, make sure you *228 and "upgrade your phones roaming capabilites"

*UPDATE*
See this thread to drastically improve the performance of the Internal GPS:

Thanks so much for the great info... unfortunately I cannot get Google Maps to see my GPS location. I have Alltel PPC 6800 and have done every step to the tee. My location is set to on and my GPS settings are matching the ones you instructed.

I have Google maps looking for SATs and get nothing and when I click on My Location it says "Your device not configured for locations".

Any ideas?
