Hard resets just return it to bootloader mode as well....
Check the last post in this thread for a utility you can run to push you out of bootloader mode:

You will need to go into activesync on your PC, file menu->connection settings and uncheck USB first. Then connect your PC and run that application. Make sure you remember to re-check USB when you're done or you won't be able to sync again.
