But there is such a focus on "clean ROMs" for the 6700/6800 because those units come with not enough usable program memory. A clean ROM leaves more space left for running programs. This issue is why I just chose the Touch over the Mogul, despite my wanting WiFi and a keyboard.
The Touch has twice the space for programs, so ROMs can focus on adding cool features instead of just trying to trim the fat. Of course you don't want something so bloated that it is buggy, but overall I get the sense that preserving memory for programs is a non-issue on the touch.
...Is this a fair assessment?

i think it would depend on who you ask. everyone on here has his or hers own opinions of memory use, clean roms, full roms, etc.
it's nice to have a clean rom so you can add what YOU want instead of what the phone company or a certain cook wants you to have. you would be amazed at the software that you will find that you really don't need. for me it was the cube. i liked the idea of it but when i loaded a rom that didn't have it, i found i actually didn't miss using it. and not having it did make the device faster.
i think you should try some clean ones and some not so clean ones and see how you feel about the running of your device with each rom. i changes roms weekly i think. i finally settled for one that Whosdaman did.
look around and enjoy. and then learn how to cook your own and see what you like.
