You will not get aGPS working on VZW at this time. They have proprietary drivers that lock it down so only VZNav and other VZW sanctioned apps can use it as well.

You can however get great GPS with this phone if you are on VZW. Follow the threads in the upgrade forum. Look for the stickies at the top and read them. When your done reading them read them again. THEN go ahead and start flashing your ROM. Its not that hard, you have better support from this forum and XDA then you will get from VZW, and you will have a new OS and GPS. Its a win win situation.

NOTE: IF you flash third party ROMS and Radios you void your warranty. VZW will not help you. I forgot to add that the first time so its a win win loose situation. But you can also revert back to stock. I have had to on many occasions. Four times yesterday alone!

I do think at one point somone will crack the VZW drivers or what ever in the system denies 3rd party apps to use aGPS. Once this is done life will be grand! But untill then, if you want GPS you will have to hack the device.

And to answer some of your questions about the sprint version. I am not currently running the sprint version but have had in the past. I beleive they were the first ones to have the GPS turned on. I used them because it was the easiest way to get the GPS radio and newer OS all in one shot. It worked great for me untill I learned how to be a master of ROMS. Once you go with a 3rd part ROM you will never use VZW's ROM again.

Eitherway, good luck to you in whatever you decide to do.
