Re: Opera Mini and Myspace... help! Its all in dutch!

Opera is based in Norway, thus most of their server equipment, along with the majority of their proxy servers. A lot of sites serve pages based on the user agent of the browser fetching a given page. Considering they speak Norwegian in Norway, the servers present a page in Norwegian. The page is p***** on to the user's browser in the language it was received in.

The reason why Opera uses proxy servers is for many reasons, the main one is for the benefits of caching and image recr
ompression to serve pages faster by saving bandwidth. Anther reason is to correctly render pages for the browser thus saving memory, CPU usage, and subsequently battery life of the phone.

I've seen pages show up in Spanish/Portugese as well, which is to be expexted o save on latency and increase reliability of their servers.

You can turn it off, but I'd reccommend against it, as it usually slows browsing because the phone is handling raw pages by itself and offsets any speed increases seen by a closer and shorter path to the web server.
