well, if the place you bought it from doesn't help, check out the thread in my sig and it might help you get started on working on your own phone. No idea what cricket is (another carrier?) but, generally speaking most roms are similar.
To me from what i read quickly, was that almost everything works under activesync, but not without. That says to me you only have inet when activesync is on (connected to pc?). The reason is it uses the PC connection for inet, not radio for inet.
