Well, turns out to be a non-issue. Qwest doesn't want the phone back since it was covered by Asurion. I thought they would want the old one back for parts but I guess since it went for a swim at the beach they figured it won't be any good for parts.

Also,they sent me a new one--not reconditioned, per PST--I guess since they are just starting the process of converting everybody over to Verizon they're getting rid of their stock. It's a shame this phone won't be used for more than a couple of months before it gets put into a drawer somewhere.

I wonder if I could sell it to someone to flash to Cricket and use it with them?
