Greeks go for GSM. You may be able to pick up a signal off a cruise ship in the islands, mon.

I used my AT&T Tilt with a local o2 prepaid sim card while in the UK for a month (for work and fun) - but then then tilt is a GSM world phone, and I still had to unlock it before it would accept that o2 sim.

Way WAY cheaper then roaming on AT&T, for sure.

I vote for skype for calls back home, and screw the phone for everything else.
