Ok, its unfortunate that you cant get them to work exactly like normal today screen...
BUT you can do this if you like...

1. Tap n hold on blank part of screen, select author mode
2. Tap n hold again on blank part, select Page, select properties
3. select grey box that says "SoftKeys"
4. DO NOT check the box to show soft keys on page, this will cover things up
5. Softkey: Left
6. Tap on Edit Script
7. Tap Add
8. Select System-New Menu from the drop down. Hit done, done.
9. Select Softkey: Right
10. Tap Edit Script
11. Tap Add
12. Select System-Display Notification. Done, done, done, done.
13. Now tap n hold on blank part of screen, select author mode to uncheck.

This will allow you to....

With the LEFT soft key button: choose to make a new appointment, contact, message, note, or task. Tao on the softkey on the screen where it says cancel to cancel. The button is mapped to display the menu, not cancel it out.

With the RIGHT soft key button: See you pending notification and allow you to reply, dismiss, mark as read, etc. but you must tap on the screen to for these extra ones cust the button is now mapped to display

I hope that does SOMETHING for you.. sorry but WAD2 does have the OEM menus within itself.
