Well as a verizon user, your phone already has MMS and voice dialer (cyberon).
I really never recommend brand-new users go for custom ROMs right away. Take some time and get familiar with Windows Mobile, read a lot of posts here, and figure out what you don't like about your stock ROM. Then you can proceed to find a custom ROM that interests you.
I don't want to dissuade you if you're dead set on going custom right off the bat, but it's just my recommendation.
