I had the same problem. I pondered the following 2 options.
1. Just tell them I lost the phone. Pay the $50 deductible and a brand new phone comes in the mail.
2. Take it back to the store, convince the tech it was a manufacturer defect and they will order you a brand new one or replace it on the spot if they have it in stock.
I have done both and both work. For option 2, i just took a nail file and popped off the piece at the top the messaging and IE buttons underneath. the tech saw it was constantly falling off. The rest was history.
Anything considered a manufacturer defect get replace free of charge. All others get the $50 deductible treatment.
This is all assuming that you have the proper insurance coverage in place.
