Also check your pins where your mini usb connects with the phone. You should have 5 across the top and 5 across the bottom. You might need a flashlight to see. I had a similar problem and for some reason one of the pins was busted off. Check that first, that my be your problem. If you just bought the phone you should be able to get a replacement with no problems.

My phone would charge USB, but would not sync.
