what i do is flash the sprint rom....the screen will come up that says tap here or something, just before the calibration, and i take the phone and put it aside, then open the kitchen and create a rom, plug in the phone and flash. this way i never even get close to the sprint customization crap. i never have, but i guess on the tap screen you could put it into bootloader and that would prevent a screw up. remember you first have to unlock and all. good luck
