Well from what read about the sprint touch you were lucky to have the "better" screen the first time. Now your like most of us lol.
I have the so called "bad" screen but I really don't find it a big deal and I have a 22" Apple Cinema at home to make it look bad.
On My Touch In portrait mode side to side tilting actually looks good.. Tilt it up and down though and it bleaches out or dims and inverts pretty quick.
