Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS

Hey all, I'm new here and just read through this thread, but I have a few questions...Last week I got the Verizon VX6900, and it's indeed a very awesome phone. I'm interested in "upgrading" it to take advantage of the GPS. So here's my questions...

1. It sounds like you most definitely have to call Verizon at least once to get the phone working again through the upgrade progress. I'm on a family plan right now (it's just more affordable) so I'd like to know exactly what information they will require from me to get my phone online again. Is it just the account holder SSN? I'm going to be out of state for a while, and especially if I screw up my phone it will be hard for me to get this information after the fact, so any guidance is most appreciated

2. I have insurance on the phone right now. I understand it's likely that it will be rendered useless and the warranty rendered void by doing this upgrade, however, let's say I drop the phone and break the screen. If I try to flash back to a close-to-stock ROM, or intentionally brick the phone, what are the odds they will closely examine the phone upon return? And if they do, does anybody know what the penalty is? I'd like to keep insurance incase something physically happens to the phone, so if anybody has some insight on that, much appreciated.

3. ROM - I've never tried "cooking" my own ROM, but I'm not exactly opposed to that either, however, initially, what's the best ROM? I'm looking for something that's essentially upgraded stock - I don't want a bunch of bells and whistles that I can add in myself later (also I don't want a ROM that modifies the look/feel of Windows Mobile, again, I'll do that myself if I'm inclined to change it) - but I do want a ROM that will work with GPS, especially the "fixed" GPS that doesn't require a soft-reset after going on standby.

4. Finally, what should I expect from an upgraded ROM? With GPS off during normal phone use can I expect to have roughly the same battery life, and are there any issues that will affect the normal operations of the phone? I still want to be able to connect to the data network, text, picture message, etc. and from what I've read it sounds like any issues with those aspects of the device that can get messed up during upgrades can be usually fixed, but is there anything I'm pretty much giving up forever by upgrading?

Again, thanks all for any help, I'm really looking forward to gettin' me some GPS on my phone, I just want to be as clear as possible about what I'm getting into before I do it, so... thanks again!
