That did it. The phone was really dead - no power, no lights, no response to anything. I thought it was physically gone. I tried everything I could thing of. But then I did what you said, take the battery out, plugged in the usb charger and the charging light blinked. Yeah, it wasn't as dead as I thought. I then put the battery in and hard reset and lo and behold there was the reset message. So I went directly to the bootloader sequence and up it came. Now I got myself another 6700.
