As far as the merger with Alltel, They have been in bed with each other for years. Verizon and Alltel have been sharing the backbone for coverage. Seperate switchs thou.
I didn't look at the dates when I read the stories. The MCI merger may have already happened and things are what they are now. However, the Alltell merger is official and in more ways than just swapping spit and whispering sweet nothings into their fibers. Supposedly by the end of this year, Alltell will no longer exist and everything it is will be Verizon (internet and in-store sources both told me this). It's not just the backbone either. Towers, phones, lines, everything will be adopted by Verizon.

Yes, 5GB has been the cap for a long time now. But think about it. How many people do you know that can download 5GB onto/through their phone in a month? If your tethering your phone through 5+GB of data in a month, you really need a landline source of broadband pronto! Preferrably one that has no cap. Then enjoy living in the roomiest limits (or lack thereof) that life can offer. Along with a cheaper wireless bill.
