If you have TEP [assuming you're on sprint], you could do something that may violate your morals... I don't condone it, but you could say you lost it. Do NOT say it was stolen because that requires a police report. Do not say you dropped it, because they will look inside and tell it was in water.
Anyway, I know what its like to have your expensive phone damaged not be able to afford a new one. Luckily in my case, I just dropped it. Took it in and got a new one for free.

If you have TEP, you don't have to do anything that might "violate your morals". TEP covers liquid damage. Call Asurion (the company that handles insurance claims for the TEP insurer) and tell them your phone has water damage; they will replace it for the $50 deductible.
