search for something called BigModeSMS which will let you switch between threaded text and regular text. All it does is make a change in the registry so you do not have to do it yourself. Works really well.
Also there is an app called smiley SMS found on xda forum also has the option to stop the threaded style and use normal. This app alsp gives you smileys and more control of text messaging.
