As to the reply from UTStarcom, it's from an uninformed employee. Not surprising since UTStarcom has very few engineers that actually touch the devices... HTC designs these from top to bottom. UTStarcom does a bit of testing, pinch of relations, sends it off to manufacturing, and stamps their name all over the device.

Windows Mobile does not yet have an integrated LBS API, as such programs such as navigation apps, cannot yet take advantage of the gpsOne chip.

The only things a gpsOne chip on a Windows Mobile device can do is E911 and network-dependent GPS features (such as Family Locater on Sprint or Chaperone on Verizon).

HTC has opted to not add autonomous GPS units to their CDMA devices, though it is becoming pervasive on their GSM/UMTS models (since they lack gpsOne). I suspect in the long-run either HTC will add autonomous GPS to CDMA units... or Microsoft will release a LBS API to carriers for integration.
sorry friend, many seem to believe you are wrong---
