I agree. In direct response to the success of the iPhone, MS has recently stated that they are going to shift their emphasis to a more vertically-integrated model. In the future I think we'll see MS producing their own line of devices with tighter hardware integration. It's ludicrous to think that would start with video drivers for the Titan and Vogue though (no offense).
I've always appreciated MS' commitment to an open platform. Not being locked to specific hardware allows for a lot of flexibility in the PPC and PC world. There is definetly something to be said for Apple's hardware and software integration though. Their systems are typically smooth and relatively bug-free. Competition is good, and the future looks bright.
