Open active sync. Got to File>Connetion settings and make sure that Allow USB connections is checked. You may also try a different cable and a different port on the PC if you think it is an issue on the PC side.

I just went back and read your post. I didn't catch this the first time. Does that mean it worked on yours but not hers?
