Here is a thought. I never try it but I think you should be able to take it to Alltel and have them update to their latest rom for you. I think it should work.
And then you can install the files I attached in the following posts. Those files will not have permanent changes / damages on your phone. It will be erased after a hard reset. Those files worked on my Alltel 6800 and at least one other Alltel member on this forum.
