1. Rats, I was hoping we were in the same area, might make it eaiser to figure this out..haha
2. do this:
a) in dialer, hit ##778 TALK
b) enter the SPC code when it asks. If you don't know it, try 000000, if that fails try 333333. If that fails let me know I'll show you how to get yer SPC code.
c) assuming you got past B, at the top of the screen you'll see the word "Display". Click on it and a menu will appear, the 7th item down is "PRL" - click on that.
d) Now the 2nd line of the grid that appears will say "PRL ID", and have a number after it. In my case it says "1050" - which is where I belive my problem is.
3. You do not see a little triangle then, right? That's how you tell if you're roaming.
4. Well, it would be nice if it showed EV instead of 1x. This means you're connecting at 1x speeds instead of EVDO speeds, and EVDO is a lot faster. The real question is why it's 1x. Perhaps the area your in isn't covered by EVDO, or the PRL file that YOU have might not be good either. It's the PRL file that the phone uses to tell which towers to connect to.
Lastly, it's come to my attention that Cricket has flipped the switch on their "AWS" network, which actually runs on a different band freq than the other CDMA phones. What I haven't found out yet is how that effects the people with non AWS phones like ours. MetroPCS did that in the Las Vegas area and they claim they can't do the "MetroFlash" thing their press release said they could do just last week. (MetroFlash is where they flash another carriers phone to theirs). Well, it sounds to me like the person you talked to at Cricket was under them impression he could flash our phone.....so who knows? It's either the PRL file, the fact the switch has been fliped on the AWS and the person you talked to in the store was an idiot and these units dont work on that frequency, or there is an issue with the home/sid settngs and a bunch of other headaces that are hard to figure out without another working pda on the same network.
Anyway, let me know which PRL file you have & that will clear up a lot of things I think. If the guys at Cricket WILL flash a phone, I'd be willing to blow a few bucks just to get all the settings we need so I can share with everyone else who's going to want to do this.
