For what it's worth, with an issue like this we have to wait for the manufacturer to acknowledge the defect as warrantable before we replace the phone. If the phone is warranted without manufacturer's acknowledgment of a known defect then Verizon eats the cost of each replacement.
I have sold literally hundreds of these units and not a single one has come back with the crack, so it is most likely a bad batch. That can take time to filter down to us.
When we start seeing repeated issues like this in the store we have to file a tech bulletin report, which goes up the chain.
