So its in on all the time. additionally it creates a icon on the bottom bar that changes colors to notify you what kind of GPS signal you are recieving. the icon is Red for no GPS , Yellow For Searching for satellites, or green for Seeing satellites and having a fix. which is very nice info to have on the main screen. The icon let you know if you have a Satellite fix before starting TomTom, Google maps, Live Search. which is nice.
