There are good communities for both devices (qusers.com, everythingq.com, hellomotoq.com for the Q) (PPCGeeks, XDA-developers.com for the touch) If you will be doing light to moderate typing on it...I'd say go for the touch, hands down. Its just an all around better choice. If you DO have to do alot of typing, consider the Mogul (or XV6800 as Verizon brands it). With a slide out keyboard and built in WiFi, it might be just perfect for you.

Check out all the community websites for each device. See which one would be more beneficial for you.

I personally have had 3 phones in the past 4 months : The Motorola Q9c, the Mogul, and the touch. I liked them all....but the touch is just awesome.
Yeah man, I used to have an original Q.
It sucked . No Joke.
REALLY LOW memory. Often requires soft-resets.
Worst of all. THE BATTERY LIFE SUCKS.
The battery life i have on my touch right now, is longer than on the Q WITH and extended battery.
I'd go with the touch 10 times outta 10.
