Ah, I see. I assume the purpose is to conserve battery life, although I bet it's trivial at best. I'm not going to use it though because it doesn't seem to b sensitive enough to pick up a dim lighting situation where it's nice to have that backlit keyboard.

BTW, is there a registry edit or .cab out there to have it put the backlight on automatically deending on the lighting situation without having to press a key?
