Is there a fix for the fact that MMS/PIX messaging does not immediately alert that I have new mail when I get it?

Sometimes I don't get pix/mms until a day or two after it's been sent.

A dire situation just arose where the only way my g/f could get a hold of me was through MMS her phone was not placing calls or text, and I didnt get the message until it was too late.

Please let me know if there is a fix for this..
