so you have the touch and you've never upgraded... its the stock rom right?... this means you never unlocked it... maybe u should unlock it with imcokeman 2.31 vogue unlocker, then give it a shot...
activesync IS recognizing your device right? its just the rom update utility which does not.... right?
i believe unlocking will do the trick.... voids warranty tho, so if at some point you completely fry your phone, you're outta luck... but if its not COMPLETELY fried, you can relock it...
i'm not saying frying your phone WILL happen, but its always possible if you start flashing a bunch of roms and don't know what youre doing...
but your purpose of unlocking is to upgrade to an official sprint version which should not ruin your phone in ANY way.
