Did you happen to install any new software? I had the exact same problem but I was unsure what caused it. I had to use a earlier Sprite backup to get it working again. This was on the leaked test Sprint ROM with WM6.1.
If you don't find a solution and don't have a backup, a hard reset may be necessary unfortunately.
