From stock, I updated to Bell 1.19.666.1, unlocked, installed sprint custom GPS, and I've been running OMJ Bell GPS-custom w/ 3.37.15 radio for a little over a week, with many thanks to OMJ for that! My GPS has been working reliably, taking approx. 1-3 minutes for a fix priming with GPS-viewer since I couldn't get any other programs to initialize the GPS. I do NOT have a-GPS (cell triangulation) enabled, as I didn't want as much variation in accuracy as I've heard that provides. I tried another app about 3 days ago called GPS tuner (with a 3 week free trial) and I'm getting a lock of at least 3 sats in less than 10 seconds, even when sitting in my basement! Out in the open I've got up to 8 sats active in less than 30 seconds, showing an accuracy of approx +- 1.5 meters. I've tried it after the phone was on all day, and immediately following a hard boot with the battery removed. I don't know what the difference is in the software but my best guess is that the GPS tuner program retains the almanac file instead of downloading it each time, making the time to fix much shorter than before. The only reports I remember reading of this kind of time frame and consistency are from Sprint customers who have run customization.
Has anyone else not on Sprint (or who has not run the sprint customization) tried this program, or had similar success using different software?
As a side note: With GPS-tuner running constantly, i get about 3 1/2 hours on the standard HTC battery. When I have Tom Tom running, it will last ...maybe 1 1/2 hours tops. This definitely is not for walking around all day, but it's great for driving with a charger

I hope I'm not taking the thread too far off topic. I know I've seen plenty of posts about how do I.... what did you... I can't... etc. on the GPS topic here.
