I don't think hard reset should be the first answer you give unless its the only way. If its possible to do it another way a hard reset is a lot of work they didn't have to do. Thats how sprint talks. "Dirt on your screen easy fix ,hard reset."

**Edit** I just removed codys from my PPC and restarted it after the uninstall was complete. Once it restarted my stock texts where back and everything was normal. You will however loose your text messages you had saved.
No I have to install it again.
