I just looked at the config files for the SPrint carrier customization and when I saw PPST.exe was followed by this step "WriteDMData.exe" and they were both part of a Sprint's cab install figured they had to be linked.... I was like you feeling very uncomfortable seeing that "Phone AS Modem" on all my data connections... Glad I was able to help!
