So, it seemed to me like this was some problem with the Z9 and the HTC bluetooth, as it followed both a change from one device to another and a replacement of the headset itself.
Maybe I'm just deaf (which is possible) and nobody else ever needs to turn it up above the lowest volume levels. But in many environments I couldn't hear unless I turned it up to the point where the buzzing started. It drove me crazy. I was really disappointed, as I loved everything about the headset aside from that.
For now, I've got the Plantronics Voyager 855. I like it, but not as much as I would have liked the Z9 if it didn't have the buzzing.

did you upgrade to the 3.4 firmware on the Z9? the Z9 has been the loudest headset i've used. i'm also using the jawbone 2 and it's pretty loud/clear with the Touch.
